What It Is & How It Works
Depressed scars form when fibrous strands pull the skin's surface downward, creating visible indentations. Subcision releases these tethers by inserting a specialized needle (e.g., Nokor or tri-beveled) into the deep dermis beneath the scar.
The needle is moved in a fan-like motion to cut the fibrotic strands. This releases the skin, allowing it to rise, while the subsequent wound-healing process stimulates new collagen production for continued improvement.
Benefits
Effective Release: Directly targets and releases the fibrous bands causing the depression.
Natural Lifting: The skin lifts immediately upon release and continues to improve as new collagen forms.
Minimally Invasive: A minor in-office procedure with minimal downtime.
Suitable for Darker Skin: No heat or lasers are involved, lowering the risk of pigmentation changes.
Long-Lasting: Results are generally permanent, though additional sessions may be needed for optimal outcome.
Sessions & Timeline
Number: Most patients need 1 to 4 sessions. Some may require up to 6 for severe scarring.
Spacing: Sessions are typically spaced 3 to 6 weeks apart to allow for proper healing.
Session Length: Each session takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
Results Timeline: You may see immediate improvement from the release, but optimal results develop over 2 to 4 months (or up to a year) as collagen remodels.
Post-Care Instructions
Immediately After: Apply ice packs to minimize swelling. Keep the dressing on for 24-48 hours.
Cleansing & Makeup: Gently wash with a mild cleanser twice daily. Avoid makeup for at least 48-72 hours.
All treatment plans are customized based on individual assessment during consultation. Session numbers and protocols may vary depending on your specific condition, skin type, and treatment goals.
